The Prophet ﷺ used to stay with Zaynab bint Jahsh and drink honey at her home. Ayesha said, "So Hafsa and I agreed that whichever of us the Prophet ﷺ came in to would say, 'I smell maghafir on you. Have you eaten maghafir?'"He came in to one of them and she said that to him.He replied, "No, rather I drank honey at Zaynab bint Jahsh's, and I will never do it again."Then it was revealed, "Why do you forbid yourself what Allah has made lawful for you" [Tahrim 66:1], up to His words "If you two repent" [Tahrim 66:4], which refers to Ayesha and Hafsa, and "And when the Prophet confided a matter to one of his wives" [Tahrim 66:3], which refers to his saying, "No, rather I drank honey."
و حدثني محمد بن حاتم حدثنا حجاج بن محمد أخبرنا ابن جريج أخبرني عطاء أنه سمع عبيد بن عمير يخبر أنه
أن النبي ﷺ كان يمكث عند زينب بنت جحش فيشرب عندها عسلا قالت فتواطيت أنا وحفصة أن أيتنا ما دخل عليها النبي ﷺ فلتقل إني أجد منك ريح مغافير أكلت مغافير فدخل على إحداهما فقالت ذلك له فقال بل شربت عسلا عند زينب بنت جحش ولن أعود له فنزل {لم تحرم ما أحل الله لك} إلى قوله {إن تتوبا} لعائشة وحفصة {وإذ أسر النبي إلى بعض أزواجه حديثا} لقوله بل شربت عسلا
