Someone said to Ibn Abbas, "Give us one of your remarkable reports. Was not the threefold pronouncement of divorce counted as a single divorce during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr?"He replied, "Yes, that was indeed the case. But when Umar's time came, people began rushing recklessly into divorce, so he made it binding upon them."
