Umar bin Ubaydullah bin Muamar wanted to marry his son Talha to the daughter of Shayba bin Jubayr during the Hajj, and Abban bin Uthman was the leader of the pilgrims that year. He sent word to Abban saying, "I wish to give Talha bin Umar in marriage, and I would like you to be present for it."Abban replied to him, "I see you behaving like a coarse Iraqi. I heard Uthman bin Affan say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A person in the state of ihram must not marry.'"

أن عمر بن عبيد الله بن معمر أراد أن ينكح ابنه طلحة بنت شيبة بن جبير في الحج وأبان بن عثمان يومئذ أمير الحاج فأرسل إلى أبان إني قد أردت أن أنكح طلحة بن عمر فأحب أن تحضر ذلك فقال له أبان ألا أراك عراقيا جافيا إني سمعت عثمان بن عفان يقول قال رسول الله ﷺ لا ينكح المحرم
