He taught them that whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ settled himself upon his mount setting out on a journey, he would say "Allahu Akbar" three times, then say, "Glory to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it by our own efforts. Indeed, to our Lord we will surely return" [Zukhruf 43:13–14]."O Allah, we ask You on this journey of ours for righteousness, piety, and deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, from a sorrowful sight, and from an evil return regarding wealth and family."When he returned, he would say the same words and add to them, "Returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord."
حدثني هارون بن عبد الله حدثنا حجاج بن محمد قال قال ابن جريج أخبرني أبو الزبير أن عليا الأزدي أخبره أن
علمهم أن رسول الله ﷺ كان إذا استوى على بعيره خارجا إلى سفر كبر ثلاثا ثم قال {سبحان الذي سخر لنا هذا وما كنا له مقرنين وإنا إلى ربنا لمنقلبون} اللهم إنا نسألك في سفرنا هذا البر والتقوى ومن العمل ما ترضى اللهم هون علينا سفرنا هذا واطو عنا بعده اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الأهل اللهم إني أعوذ بك من وعثاء السفر وكآبة المنظر وسوء المنقلب في المال والأهل وإذا رجع قالهن وزاد فيهن آيبون تائبون عابدون لربنا حامدون
