Zuayb, the father of Qabisa, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to send sacrificial camels with him and would say, "If any of them is stricken and you fear it will die, slaughter it, then dip its sandal in its blood, then strike its side with it. But neither you nor any of your companions may eat from it."

أن ذؤيبا أبا قبيصة حدثه أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يبعث معه بالبدن ثم يقول إن عطب منها شيء فخشيت عليه موتا فانحرها ثم اغمس نعلها في دمها ثم اضرب به صفحتها ولا تطعمها أنت ولا أحد من أهل رفقتك
