Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman reported,

A man from Iraq said to him, "Ask Urwa bin Zubayr on my behalf about a man who enters the state of ihram for hajj. When he performs tawaf around the Kabah, may he exit ihram or not? If he tells you he may not exit ihram, then say to him that a certain man says he may."He said, So I asked him, and he replied, "He does not exit ihram. Whoever enters ihram for hajj remains in it until he completes the hajj."I said, "But a certain man was saying that he may."He responded, "What an evil thing he has said!"Then the man approached me and questioned me, so I told him what Urwa had said. He said, "Tell him that a certain man was reporting that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did exactly that, and what about Asma and Zubayr, who also did that?"So I went to him and mentioned this to him. He asked, "Who is this man?"I said, "I do not know."He said, "Why does he not come to me himself and ask me? I think he is an Iraqi."I said, "I do not know."He said, "He has lied. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed hajj, and Ayesha informed me that the very first thing he did when he arrived in Makkah was perform ablution, then perform tawaf around the Kabah. Then Abu Bakr performed hajj, and the first thing he began with was tawaf around the Kabah, then nothing else followed it. Then Umar did the same. Then Uthman performed hajj, and I saw that the first thing he began with was tawaf around the Kabah, then nothing else followed it. Then Muawiya and Abdullah bin Umar did the same. Then I performed hajj with my father, Zubayr bin Awwam, and the first thing he began with was tawaf around the Kabah, then nothing else followed it. Then I saw the Muhajirun and the Ansar doing the same, and nothing else followed it. The last person I saw doing this was Ibn Umar, and he did not break his hajj by converting it into umrah. Here is Ibn Umar among them, why do they not ask him? None of those who have passed before us would begin with anything, when they set foot in Makkah, before tawaf around the Kabah, and then they would not exit ihram. I saw my mother and my aunt, when they would arrive, beginning with nothing before the Kabah. They would perform tawaf around it and not exit ihram. My mother informed me that she came with her sister, Zubayr, and so-and-so and so-and-so, intending umrah. When they touched the Corner, they exited ihram. So he has lied in what he claims about this."

عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن

أن رجلا من أهل العراق قال له سل لي عروة بن الزبير عن رجل يهل بالحج فإذا طاف بالبيت أيحل أم لا فإن قال لك لا يحل فقل له إن رجلا يقول ذلك قال فسألته فقال لا يحل من أهل بالحج إلا بالحج قلت فإن رجلا كان يقول ذلك قال بئس ما قال فتصداني الرجل فسألني فحدثته فقال فقل له فإن رجلا كان يخبر أن رسول الله ﷺ قد فعل ذلك وما شأن أسماء والزبير قد فعلا ذلك قال فجئته فذكرت له ذلك فقال من هذا فقلت لا أدري قال فما باله لا يأتيني بنفسه يسألني أظنه عراقيا قلت لا أدري قال فإنه قد كذب قد حج رسول الله ﷺ فأخبرتني عائشة رضي الله عنها أن أول شيء بدأ به حين قدم مكة أنه توضأ ثم طاف بالبيت ثم حج أبو بكر فكان أول شيء بدأ به الطواف بالبيت ثم لم يكن غيره ثم عمر مثل ذلك ثم حج عثمان فرأيته أول شيء بدأ به الطواف بالبيت ثم لم يكن غيره ثم معاوية وعبد الله بن عمر ثم حججت مع أبي الزبير بن العوام فكان أول شيء بدأ به الطواف بالبيت ثم لم يكن غيره ثم رأيت المهاجرين والأنصار يفعلون ذلك ثم لم يكن غيره ثم آخر من رأيت فعل ذلك ابن عمر ثم لم ينقضها بعمرة وهذا ابن عمر عندهم أفلا يسألونه ولا أحد ممن مضى ما كانوا يبدءون بشيء حين يضعون أقدامهم أول من الطواف بالبيت ثم لا يحلون وقد رأيت أمي وخالتي حين تقدمان لا تبدأان بشيء أول من البيت تطوفان به ثم لا تحلان وقد أخبرتني أمي أنها أقبلت هي وأختها والزبير وفلان وفلان بعمرة قط فلما مسحوا الركن حلوا وقد كذب فيما ذكر من ذلك
