Abdullah bin Umar reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed tamattu in the Farewell Pilgrimage, combining umrah with hajj. He brought a sacrificial animal with him, driving it along from Dhul-Hulayfah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began by entering the state of ihram for umrah, then he entered ihram for hajj. The people performed tamattu along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, combining umrah with hajj. Some among the people had brought sacrificial animals and driven them along, while others had not. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Makkah, he said to the people, "Whoever among you has brought a sacrificial animal must not release himself from any of the restrictions of ihram until he completes his hajj. Whoever among you has not brought a sacrificial animal should circumambulate the House, walk between Safa and Marwa, shorten his hair, and exit ihram. Then let him enter ihram for hajj and offer a sacrifice. Whoever cannot find a sacrificial animal should fast three days during the hajj and seven when he returns to his family."When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Makkah, he performed the circumambulation. The first thing he did was touch the corner. Then he walked briskly for three of the seven circuits and walked normally for four. When he completed his circumambulation of the House, he prayed two rakahs at the Station, gave the salam, and departed. He then went to Safa and walked between Safa and Marwa seven times. He did not release himself from any of the restrictions of ihram until he completed his hajj. He sacrificed his animal on the Day of Sacrifice, then proceeded to perform the circumambulation of the House, after which he was released from all the restrictions of ihram. Those among the people who had brought and driven sacrificial animals did the same as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had done.
