The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out to perform the Hajj, and we set out with him. He sent a group of his companions ahead, among whom was Abu Qatada, and told them, "Take the coastal route until you meet up with me."So they took the coastal route. When they turned back toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they all entered the state of ihram except Abu Qatada, who did not enter ihram.While they were traveling, they saw some wild donkeys. Abu Qatada charged at them and brought down a female donkey. They stopped, dismounted, and ate from its meat.Then they said, "We have eaten meat while we are in ihram." So they carried what remained of the donkey's meat with them.When they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they said, "Messenger of Allah, we had entered ihram while Abu Qatada had not. We saw some wild donkeys, and Abu Qatada charged at them and brought down a female donkey. We dismounted and ate from its meat. Then we said, 'We are eating game meat while we are in ihram,' so we carried with us what remained of its meat."He asked, "Did any of you order him to do it or signal to him in any way?"They replied, "No."He said, "Then eat what remains of its meat."
حدثني أبو كامل الجحدري حدثنا أبو عوانة عن عثمان بن عبد الله بن موهب
خرج رسول الله ﷺ حاجا وخرجنا معه قال فصرف من أصحابه فيهم أبو قتادة فقال خذوا ساحل البحر حتى تلقوني قال فأخذوا ساحل البحر فلما انصرفوا قبل رسول الله ﷺ أحرموا كلهم إلا أبا قتادة فإنه لم يحرم فبينما هم يسيرون إذ رأوا حمر وحش فحمل عليها أبو قتادة فعقر منها أتانا فنزلوا فأكلوا من لحمها قال فقالوا أكلنا لحما ونحن محرمون قال فحملوا ما بقي من لحم الأتان فلما أتوا رسول الله ﷺ قالوا يا رسول الله إنا كنا أحرمنا وكان أبو قتادة لم يحرم فرأينا حمر وحش فحمل عليها أبو قتادة فعقر منها أتانا فنزلنا فأكلنا من لحمها فقلنا نأكل لحم صيد ونحن محرمون فحملنا ما بقي من لحمها فقال هل منكم أحد أمره أو أشار إليه بشيء قال قالوا لا قال فكلوا ما بقي من لحمها
