A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, my mother has died, and she owes a month of fasting. Shall I make it up on her behalf?"He replied, "If your mother had owed a debt, would you have paid it on her behalf?"The man said, "Yes."He said, "Then a debt owed to Allah is even more deserving of being paid."Sulayman said, Hakam and Salama bin Kuhayl both spoke up while we were sitting when Muslim narrated this hadith and said, "We heard Mujahid mention this from Ibn Abbas."
و حدثني أحمد بن عمر الوكيعي حدثنا حسين بن علي عن زائدة عن سليمان عن مسلم البطين عن سعيد بن جبير
جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله إن أمي ماتت وعليها صوم شهر أفأقضيه عنها فقال لو كان على أمك دين أكنت قاضيه عنها قال نعم قال فدين الله أحق أن يقضى قال سليمان فقال الحكم وسلمة بن كهيل جميعا ونحن جلوس حين حدث مسلم بهذا الحديث فقالا سمعنا مجاهدا يذكر هذا عن ابن عباس
Muslim narrated the hadith of Ashaj, from Abu Khalid, from Amash, from Hakam and Muslim Al-Butayn and Salama, from Ataa and Saeed and Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas, that a woman claimed her sister had died while still owing a fast.Bukhari said, and the text of the hadith is reported from Abu Khalid.A group of narrators disagreed with him, including Shuba, Zaida, Isa bin Yunus, Abu Muawiya, Ibn Numayr, Jareer, Umayr bin Qasim, and others. They narrated it from Amash, from Muslim, from Saeed, from Ibn Abbas.Zaida clarified in his narration where the error entered into Abu Khalid's account. He said at the end of the hadith, "Salama bin Kuhayl and Hakam said, and they were present with Muslim when he narrated this, 'We heard it from Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas.'"
