Ashura was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "It was a day that the people of the pre-Islamic era used to fast. So whoever among you wishes to fast it, let him fast, and whoever dislikes to do so, let him leave it."
و حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا ليث ح و حدثنا ابن رمح أخبرنا الليث عن نافع
أنه ذكر عند رسول الله ﷺ يوم عاشوراء فقال رسول الله ﷺ كان يوما يصومه أهل الجاهلية فمن أحب منكم أن يصومه فليصمه ومن كره فليدعه
