I took on a financial obligation, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to ask him for help with it.He said, "Stay until the charity reaches us, and we will order that some of it be given to you."Then he said, "Qabisa, asking for help is not permitted except for one of three people. A man who has taken on a financial obligation, for him asking is permitted until he obtains what covers it, then he must stop. A man struck by a disaster that has destroyed his wealth, for him asking is permitted until he secures enough to sustain his life," or he said, "enough to get by. And a man struck by such poverty that three sensible men from his people stand and declare, 'So-and-so has been struck by poverty,' for him asking is permitted until he secures enough to sustain his life," or he said, "enough to get by. Anything beyond these, Qabisa, is unlawful gain, which the one who takes it consumes as something forbidden."
