Some of the Companions said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Messenger of Allah, the people of wealth have taken away all the rewards. They pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give in charity from the surplus of their wealth."He replied, "Has not Allah given you things by which you too can give charity? Every utterance of 'Glory be to Allah' is charity, every 'Allah is the Greatest' is charity, every 'Praise be to Allah' is charity, every 'There is no god but Allah' is charity, enjoining good is charity, forbidding wrong is charity, and in the intimate relation of each of you there is charity."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, when one of us fulfills his desire, does he have a reward in that?"He answered, "Tell me, if he were to satisfy it unlawfully, would he not bear a sin for it? In the same way, when he satisfies it lawfully, he earns a reward."

أن ناسا من أصحاب النبي ﷺ قالوا للنبي ﷺ يا رسول الله ذهب أهل الدثور بالأجور يصلون كما نصلي ويصومون كما نصوم ويتصدقون بفضول أموالهم قال أو ليس قد جعل الله لكم ما تصدقون إن بكل تسبيحة صدقة وكل تكبيرة صدقة وكل تحميدة صدقة وكل تهليلة صدقة وأمر بالمعروف صدقة ونهي عن منكر صدقة وفي بضع أحدكم صدقة قالوا يا رسول الله أيأتي أحدنا شهوته ويكون له فيها أجر قال أرأيتم لو وضعها في حرام أكان عليه فيها وزر فكذلك إذا وضعها في الحلال كان له أجرا
