It was mentioned to Ayesha that Ibn Umar attributed to the Prophet ﷺ the saying that the deceased is punished in his grave because of his family's weeping over him.She replied, "He misremembered. What the Messenger of Allah ﷺ actually said was, 'The deceased is being punished for his own sins and faults, while his family is weeping over him at this very moment.'This is similar to his report that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood at the well on the day of Badr, into which the slain polytheists had been cast, and said what he said to them, 'They hear what I am saying.' But he misremembered. What the Prophet actually said was, 'They now know that what I used to say to them was the truth.'"Then she recited, "Indeed, you cannot make the dead hear" [Naml 27:80] and "And you are not one who can make those in the graves hear" [Fatir 35:22], meaning, when they have taken their seats in the Fire.

ذكر عند عائشة أن ابن عمر يرفع إلى النبي ﷺ إن الميت يعذب في قبره ببكاء أهله عليه فقالت وهل إنما قال رسول الله ﷺ إنه ليعذب بخطيئته أو بذنبه وإن أهله ليبكون عليه الآن وذاك مثل قوله إن رسول الله ﷺ قام على القليب يوم بدر وفيه قتلى بدر من المشركين فقال لهم ما قال إنهم ليسمعون ما أقول وقد وهل إنما قال إنهم ليعلمون أن ما كنت أقول لهم حق ثم قرأت {إنك لا تسمع الموتى} {وما أنت بمسمع من في القبور} يقول حين تبوءوا مقاعدهم من النار
