The Prophet ﷺ was delivering the Friday sermon while standing when a caravan arrived from Sham. The people slipped away toward it until none remained except twelve men. Then this verse in Surat al-Jumuah was revealed, "And when they see a transaction or a diversion, they rush off to it and leave you standing" [Jumuah 62:11].
حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة وإسحق بن إبراهيم كلاهما عن جرير قال عثمان حدثنا جرير عن حصين بن عبد الرحمن عن سالم بن أبي الجعد
أن النبي ﷺ كان يخطب قائما يوم الجمعة فجاءت عير من الشام فانفتل الناس إليها حتى لم يبق إلا اثنا عشر رجلا فأنزلت هذه الآية التي في الجمعة {وإذا رأوا تجارة أو لهوا انفضوا إليها وتركوك قائما}
