Anas bin Malik reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had the finest character of all people. The time for prayer would sometimes come while he was in our house, so he would order that the mat beneath him be swept and then sprinkled with water. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would lead, and we would stand behind him as he led us in prayer. Their mat was made from palm branches.
