We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey when the people's provisions ran out, to the point that he considered slaughtering some of their riding camels.Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, why not gather what remains of the people's provisions and call upon Allah to bless it?"So he did. The one who had wheat brought his wheat, the one who had dates brought his dates.Mujahid added, "And the one who had date pits brought his date pits."I asked, "What were they doing with the date pits?"He replied, "They would suck on them and drink water afterward."He then prayed over the food until the people had filled their provision bags. At that moment he said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah. No servant meets Allah with these two testimonies, free of doubt in them, except that he enters Paradise."
19 - Muslim recorded the hadith of Ashjaee, from Malik bin Mighwal, from Talha, from Abu Hurairah, "We were on a journey, and the people's provisions ran out." He said that Masruq followed him in this, narrating it from his father, from Malik. But Abu Usama and others differed from him, narrating it from Malik, from Talha, from Abu Salih, with the chain stopping at Abu Salih and not carried back to a Companion.Muslim also recorded it through the hadith of Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah or Abu Saeed. There was disagreement over this attributed to Amash, and it was also said to be from Abu Salih, from Jabir. Amash himself used to have doubts about it.
