Two old women from among the elderly Jewish women of Madinah came in to see me and said, "The people of the graves are tormented in their graves."I rejected what they said and was not inclined to believe them, so they left.Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to see me, and I said to him, "Messenger of Allah, two old women from among the elderly Jewish women of Madinah came in to see me and claimed that the people of the graves are tormented in their graves."He replied, "They spoke the truth. They are indeed tormented with a torment that the animals can hear."She said, "After that, I never saw him perform a prayer without seeking refuge from the torment of the grave."
حدثنا زهير بن حرب وإسحق بن إبراهيم كلاهما عن جرير قال زهير حدثنا جرير عن منصور عن أبي وائل عن مسروق
دخلت علي عجوزان من عجز يهود المدينة فقالتا إن أهل القبور يعذبون في قبورهم قالت فكذبتهما ولم أنعم أن أصدقهما فخرجتا ودخل علي رسول الله ﷺ فقلت له يا رسول الله إن عجوزين من عجز يهود المدينة دخلتا علي فزعمتا أن أهل القبور يعذبون في قبورهم فقال صدقتا إنهم يعذبون عذابا تسمعه البهائم قالت فما رأيته بعد في صلاة إلا يتعوذ من عذاب القبر
