Muaz used to pray with the Prophet ﷺ, then return to lead his own people in prayer. One night he prayed the Isha with the Prophet ﷺ, then came to his people and led them, beginning with Surah al-Baqarah. A man broke off from the prayer, gave the salutation, then prayed by himself and left. The people said to him, "Have you turned hypocrite, so-and-so?"He replied, "No, by Allah. I will go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and tell him."So he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, we are owners of camels used for drawing water, and we work during the day. Muaz prayed the Isha with you, then came and began the prayer with Surah al-Baqarah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to Muaz and said, "Muaz, are you a troublemaker? Recite such-and-such, and recite such-and-such."Sufyan said, I said to Amr, "Abu Zubayr narrated to us from Jabir that he said, 'Recite By the sun and its brightness, and By the morning brightness, and By the night when it covers, and Glorify the name of your Lord the Most High.'"Amr said, "Something like that."
