A man reported,

The Hijr was walled off, with people making tawaf outside it, for no reason other than to ensure that people would encompass the entire House in their tawaf.

و حدثني عن مالك أنه سمع ابن شهاب يقول

سمعت بعض علمائنا يقول

ما حجر الحجر فطاف الناس من ورائه إلا إرادة أن يستوعب الناس الطواف بالبيت كله
