Yahya bin Saeed reported,

I was with Mujahid while he was performing tawaf around the House when a man came to him and asked about the fasting days of expiation, whether they must be consecutive or whether he may break them up.Humayd said, "I told him, 'Yes, he may break them up if he wishes.'"Mujahid said, "He may not break them up, for in the recitation of Ubayy bin Kaab it reads, 'three consecutive days.'"

و حدثني عن مالك

عن حميد بن قيس المكي أنه أخبره قال

كنت مع مجاهد وهو يطوف بالبيت فجاءه إنسان فسأله عن صيام أيام الكفارة أمتتابعات أم يقطعها قال حميد فقلت له نعم يقطعها إن شاء قال مجاهد لا يقطعها فإنها في قراءة أبي بن كعب ثلاثة أيام متتابعات
