Abdullah bin Umar used to be asked whether one person may fast on behalf of another, or pray on behalf of another. He would answer, "No one may fast on behalf of another, and no one may pray on behalf of another."

أن عبد الله بن عمر كان يسأل: هل يصوم أحد عن أحد، أو يصلي أحد عن أحد؟ فيقول: لا يصوم أحد عن أحد، ولا يصلي أحد عن أحد.
