The people of Sham said to Abu Ubayda bin Jarra, "Take charity from our horses and our slaves."He refused, and then he wrote to Umar bin Khattab, and Umar also refused. They spoke to him about it again, so he wrote once more to Umar, and Umar wrote back to him, "If they wish it, then take it from them and return it to them, and provide for their slaves."
و حدثني عن مالك عن ابن شهاب
أن أهل الشام قالوا لأبي عبيدة بن الجراح خذ من خيلنا ورقيقنا صدقة فأبى ثم كتب إلى عمر بن الخطاب فأبى عمر ثم كلموه أيضا فكتب إلى عمر فكتب إليه عمر إن أحبوا فخذها منهم وارددها عليهم وارزق رقيقهم
