Muaz bin Jabal Ansari took from every thirty cows a one-year-old calf, and from every forty cows a cow that had reached full age. Some cattle fewer in number than that were brought to him, but he refused to take anything from them, saying, "I have not heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say anything about this, so I will wait until I meet him and ask him." But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away before Muaz bin Jabal returned.
حدثني يحيى عن مالك عن حميد بن قيس المكي
أن معاذ بن جبل الأنصاري أخذ من ثلاثين بقرة تبيعا ومن أربعين بقرة مسنة وأتي بما دون ذلك فأبى أن يأخذ منه شيئا وقال لم أسمع من رسول الله ﷺ فيه شيئا حتى ألقاه فأسأله فتوفي رسول الله ﷺ قبل أن يقدم معاذ بن جبل
