Uthman bin Affan reported,

This is the month of your zakat, so anyone who owes a debt should settle it, so that your wealth is clear of obligations and you can pay the zakat due on it.

حدثني يحيى عن مالك عن ابن شهاب عن السائب بن يزيد أن

عثمان بن عفان كان يقول

هذا شهر زكاتكم فمن كان عليه دين فليؤد دينه حتى تحصل أموالكم فتؤدون منه الزكاة
