Malik reported,

Uthman bin Affan, Abdullah bin Umar, and Abu Hurairah used to perform the funeral prayer in Madinah over both men and women, placing the men nearest to the imam and the women nearest to the qibla.

عن مالك، أنه بلغه

أن عثمان بن عفان، وعبد الله بن عمر، وأبا هريرة كانوا يصلون على الجنائز بالمدينة الرجال والنساء، فيجعلون الرجال مما يلي الإمام. والنساء مما يلي القبلة.
