I heard Hisham bin Hakeem bin Hizam reciting Surah Furqan differently from the way I recited it, and it was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself who had taught it to me. I nearly rushed at him on the spot, but I gave him time until he had finished. Then I seized him by his cloak and brought him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.I said, "Messenger of Allah, I heard this man reciting Surah Furqan differently from the way you taught it to me."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let him go." Then he said, "Recite, Hisham."So Hisham recited in the manner I had heard him recite, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is how it was revealed."Then he said to me, "Now you recite." So I recited it, and he said, "This is how it was revealed. This Quran was revealed in seven modes, so recite whichever of them comes easily to you."
حدثني يحيى عن مالك عن ابن شهاب عن عروة بن الزبير عن عبد الرحمن بن عبد القاري أنه قال
سمعت هشام بن حكيم بن حزام يقرأ سورة الفرقان على غير ما أقرؤها وكان رسول الله ﷺ أقرأنيها فكدت أن أعجل عليه ثم أمهلته حتى انصرف ثم لببته بردائه فجئت به رسول الله ﷺ فقلت يا رسول الله إني سمعت هذا يقرأ سورة الفرقان على غير ما أقرأتنيها فقال رسول الله ﷺ أرسله ثم قال اقرأ يا هشام فقرأ القراءة التي سمعته يقرأ فقال رسول الله ﷺ هكذا أنزلت ثم قال لي اقرأ فقرأتها فقال هكذا أنزلت إن هذا القرآن أنزل على سبعة أحرف فاقرءوا ما تيسر منه
