Zayd bin Aslam reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ halted for the night on the road to Makkah and appointed Bilal to wake them for the prayer. But Bilal fell asleep, and they all slept on until they awoke with the sun already risen upon them. The people woke in alarm, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered them to mount and ride until they had left that valley, saying, "This is a valley in which there is a devil."So they mounted and rode until they were out of the valley. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told them to dismount and perform wudu, and he instructed Bilal to call the people to prayer, or to give the iqamah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then led the people in prayer.Afterward he turned to them, for he had seen their distress, and said, "People, Allah took our souls, and had He willed He would have returned them to us at a different time. So if one of you sleeps through a prayer or forgets it and then hurries to it in alarm, let him pray it just as he would have prayed it at its proper time."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to Abu Bakr and said, "The devil came to Bilal while he stood praying and made him lie down. He kept lulling him the way a child is lulled, until he fell asleep."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Bilal, and Bilal told the Messenger of Allah ﷺ exactly what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had told Abu Bakr.Abu Bakr said, "I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah."

و حدثني

عن مالك عن زيد بن أسلم أنه قال

عرس رسول الله ﷺ ليلة بطريق مكة ووكل بلالا أن يوقظهم للصلاة فرقد بلال ورقدوا حتى استيقظوا وقد طلعت عليهم الشمس فاستيقظ القوم وقد فزعوا فأمرهم رسول الله ﷺ أن يركبوا حتى يخرجوا من ذلك الوادي وقال إن هذا واد به شيطان فركبوا حتى خرجوا من ذلك الوادي ثم أمرهم رسول الله ﷺ أن ينزلوا وأن يتوضئوا وأمر بلالا أن ينادي بالصلاة أو يقيم فصلى رسول الله ﷺ بالناس ثم انصرف إليهم وقد رأى من فزعهم فقال يا أيها الناس إن الله قبض أرواحنا ولو شاء لردها إلينا في حين غير هذا فإذا رقد أحدكم عن الصلاة أو نسيها ثم فزع إليها فليصلها كما كان يصليها في وقتها ثم التفت رسول الله ﷺ إلى أبي بكر فقال إن الشيطان أتى بلالا وهو قائم يصلي فأضجعه فلم يزل يهدئه كما يهدأ الصبي حتى نام ثم دعا رسول الله ﷺ بلالا فأخبر بلال رسول الله ﷺ مثل الذي أخبر رسول الله ﷺ أبا بكر فقال أبو بكر أشهد أنك رسول الله
