Uthman bin Affan used to say in his sermon, and he rarely omitted this whenever he preached, "When the imam stands to deliver the sermon on Friday, listen attentively and keep silent, for the one who keeps silent without hearing has the same share as the one who keeps silent and hears. And when the prayer begins, straighten the rows and align your shoulders, for the straightening of the rows is part of the completeness of the prayer."Then he would not pronounce the opening takbir until men whom he had appointed to straighten the rows came and informed him that the rows were even, and then he would pronounce the takbir.
