Thalaba bin Abu Malik Qurazi reported,

During the time of Umar bin Khattab, the people would pray on Friday until Umar came out. When Umar came out and sat on the pulpit and the callers gave the adhan, Thalaba said, we would sit and talk. Then, when the callers fell silent and Umar stood to deliver the sermon, we listened attentively, and not one of us spoke.

و حدثني عن مالك عن ابن شهاب

عن ثعلبة بن أبي مالك القرظي أنه أخبره

أنهم كانوا في زمان عمر بن الخطاب يصلون يوم الجمعة حتى يخرج عمر فإذا خرج عمر وجلس على المنبر وأذن المؤذنون قال ثعلبة جلسنا نتحدث فإذا سكت المؤذنون وقام عمر يخطب أنصتنا فلم يتكلم منا أحد
