Abu Ubayd reported,

Khalid bin Madan reported, tracing it back to the Prophet ﷺ, "Allah is gentle and loves gentleness. He is pleased with it and gives help through it in a way He does not give help through harshness. So when you ride these dumb beasts, give them their proper resting places. If the land is barren, press on across it while they still have their strength. Travel by night, for the earth is folded up by night in a way it is not folded up by day. And beware of halting to rest on the road, for roads are the paths of animals and the refuge of snakes."

عن خالد بن معدان يرفعه إن الله تبارك وتعالى رفيق يحب الرفق ويرضى به ويعين عليه ما لا يعين على العنف فإذا ركبتم هذه الدواب العجم فأنزلوها منازلها فإن كانت الأرض جدبة فانجوا عليها بنقيها وعليكم بسير الليل فإن الأرض تطوى بالليل ما لا تطوى بالنهار وإياكم والتعريس على الطريق فإنها طرق الدواب ومأوى الحيات
