Anas bin Malik reported,

I stood in prayer behind Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman, and none of them recited "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" when opening the prayer.

و حدثني عن مالك عن حميد الطويل

عن أنس بن مالك أنه قال

قمت وراء أبي بكر وعمر وعثمان فكلهم كان لا يقرأ بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم إذا افتتح الصلاة
