He heard Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan during the year he performed the pilgrimage, while he was on the pulpit and had taken a lock of hair that was in the hand of one of his guards, saying, "People of Madinah, where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid things like this, and he said, 'The Children of Israil were destroyed only when their women took to using this.'"

أنه سمع معاوية بن أبي سفيان عام حج وهو على المنبر وتناول قصة من شعر كانت في يد حرسي يقول يا أهل المدينة أين علماؤكم سمعت رسول الله ﷺ ينهى عن مثل هذه ويقول إنما هلكت بنو إسرائيل حين اتخذ هذه نساؤهم
