When Abdullah bin Umar prayed alone, he would recite in all four rakats, in every rakat, the Mother of the Quran together with a surah from the Quran. Sometimes he would recite two or three surahs in a single rakat of an obligatory prayer. In the two rakats of Maghrib he would do the same, reciting the Mother of the Quran and one surah in each.

أن عبد الله بن عمر كان إذا صلى وحده يقرأ في الأربع جميعا في كل ركعة بأم القرآن وسورة من القرآن وكان يقرأ أحيانا بالسورتين والثلاث في الركعة الواحدة من صلاة الفريضة ويقرأ في الركعتين من المغرب كذلك بأم القرآن وسورة سورة
