Abu Hurairah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man was walking along a road when he became overwhelmed with thirst. He found a well, climbed down into it, drank, and came back out. Then he saw a dog panting and licking at the wet earth from thirst. The man said, 'This dog is suffering from thirst just as I was.' So he went back down into the well, filled his shoe with water, held it in his mouth as he climbed up, and gave the dog a drink. Allah appreciated what he had done and forgave him."They said, "Messenger of Allah, are we rewarded even for what we do for animals?"He replied, "There is a reward for whatever is done for any living creature."
