Bashir bin Yasar reported,

Abdullah bin Sahl Ansari and Muhaysa bin Masud set out for Khaybar, and there they parted ways to attend to their separate errands. Abdullah bin Sahl was killed. Muhaysa returned, and he came with his brother Huwaysa and with Abdul-Rahman bin Sahl to the Prophet ﷺ.Abdul-Rahman began to speak, since he was the closest to the victim, being his brother, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let the eldest speak, let the eldest speak."So Huwaysa and Muhaysa spoke and recounted what had happened to Abdullah bin Sahl. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "Will you swear fifty oaths, and so establish your claim to the blood of your companion," or he said, "to your killer?"They replied, "Messenger of Allah, we did not witness it and we were not present."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Then let the Jews clear themselves by fifty oaths."They said, "Messenger of Allah, how can we accept the oaths of a disbelieving people?"Yahya bin Saeed said that Bashir bin Yasar claimed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid the blood money for him out of his own funds.
