Umar bin Abdul-Aziz ruled that the blood money for a Jew or a Christian, when either of them is killed, is half the blood money of a free Muslim.Malik said, "The position among us is that a Muslim is not to be killed for a disbeliever, unless a Muslim kills him treacherously by ambush, in which case he is killed for him."

أن عمر بن عبد العزيز قضى: أن دية اليهودي أو النصراني إذا قتل أحدهما مثل نصف دية الحر المسلم. قال مالك: الأمر عندنا أن لا يقتل مسلم بكافر، إلا أن يقتله مسلم قتل غيلة، فيقتل به.
