Umar bin Khattab ruled that for each molar the compensation was one camel, while Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan ruled that for each molar it was five camels.Saeed bin Musayab commented, "By Umar bin Khattab's ruling the blood money comes out short, and by Muawiya's ruling it comes out in excess. Had it been left to me, I would have set two camels for each molar, and then the blood money would come out even. Yet everyone who exercises his judgment is rewarded."
و حدثني يحيى عن مالك عن يحيى بن سعيد أنه
قضى عمر بن الخطاب في الأضراس ببعير بعير وقضى معاوية بن أبي سفيان في الأضراس بخمسة أبعرة خمسة أبعرة قال سعيد بن المسيب فالدية تنقص في قضاء عمر بن الخطاب وتزيد في قضاء معاوية فلو كنت أنا لجعلت في الأضراس بعيرين بعيرين فتلك الدية سواء وكل مجتهد مأجور
