Zayd bin Aslam reported,

A man confessed to committing adultery during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for a whip. A broken whip was brought to him, and he said, "Something better than this."Then a new whip was brought, its end not yet trimmed, and he said, "Something less than this."Then a whip was brought that had been used until it had grown soft, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the order, and the man was flogged.Then he said, "People, the time has come for you to stop overstepping the limits Allah has set. Whoever falls into any of these filthy sins, let him conceal himself under the covering of Allah, for whoever exposes himself to us, we will carry out the Book of Allah against him."

عن زيد بن أسلم

أن رجلا اعترف على نفسه بالزنا على عهد رسول الله ﷺ فدعا له رسول الله ﷺ بسوط فأتي بسوط مكسور فقال فوق هذا فأتي بسوط جديد لم تقطع ثمرته فقال دون هذا فأتي بسوط قد ركب به ولان فأمر به رسول الله ﷺ فجلد ثم قال أيها الناس قد آن لكم أن تنتهوا عن حدود الله من أصاب من هذه القاذورات شيئا فليستتر بستر الله فإنه من يبدي لنا صفحته نقم عليه كتاب الله
