Abdullah bin Abbas and Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf disagreed about a woman who gives birth a few nights after her husband's death.Abu Salama said, "Once she has delivered what is in her womb, she is free to marry."Ibn Abbas said, "She must wait out the longer of the two terms."Then Abu Hurairah arrived and said, "I side with my nephew," meaning Abu Salama.So they sent Kurayb, the freedman of Abdullah bin Abbas, to Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, to ask her about it. He came back to them and reported that she had said, "Subayah Aslamiyyah gave birth a few nights after her husband died, and she mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, 'You are free now, so marry whomever you wish.'"

أن عبد الله بن عباس وأبا سلمة بن عبد الرحمن بن عوف اختلفا في المرأة تنفس بعد وفاة زوجها بليال فقال أبو سلمة إذا وضعت ما في بطنها فقد حلت للأزواج وقال ابن عباس آخر الأجلين فجاء أبو هريرة فقال أنا مع ابن أخي يعني أبا سلمة فبعثوا كريبا مولى عبد الله بن عباس إلى أم سلمة زوج النبي ﷺ يسألها عن ذلك فجاءهم فأخبرهم أنها قالت ولدت سبيعة الأسلمية بعد وفاة زوجها بليال فذكرت ذلك لرسول الله ﷺ فقال قد حللت فانكحي من شئت
