A man divorced his wife three times before consummating the marriage, then decided he wanted to marry her again. He came seeking a ruling, and I went with him to ask on his behalf. He put the question to Abdullah bin Abbas and Abu Hurairah, and both of them said, "We do not consider it permissible for you to marry her until she has married another husband."The man said, "But my divorce of her counted as only one."Ibn Abbas replied, "You have let slip from your hand the latitude you had."
