Rifa bin Samwal divorced his wife Tamimah bint Wahb three times during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She then married Abdul-Rahman bin Zubayr, but he proved unable to consummate the marriage with her and could not touch her, so he separated from her. Rifa then wished to marry her again, since he was her first husband, the one who had divorced her. This was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he forbade him from marrying her, saying, "She is not lawful for you until she has tasted the sweetness of intimacy."
