Some people from Jar arrived and asked Marwan bin Hakam about what the sea casts up on the shore.Marwan said, "There is nothing wrong with it." Then he added, "Go to Zayd bin Thabit and Abu Hurairah and ask them about it, then come back and tell me what they say."So they went to the two of them and asked, and both replied, "There is nothing wrong with it."They returned to Marwan and told him what they had said, and Marwan said, "I already told you so."
و حدثني عن مالك عن أبي الزناد
أن ناسا من أهل الجار قدموا فسألوا مروان بن الحكم عما لفظ البحر فقال ليس به بأس وقال اذهبوا إلى زيد بن ثابت وأبي هريرة فاسألوهما عن ذلك ثم ائتوني فأخبروني ماذا يقولان فأتوهما فسألوهما فقالا لا بأس به فأتوا مروان فأخبروه فقال مروان قد قلت لكم
