When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out from Hunayn heading for Jiranah, the people kept pressing him with requests until his she-camel carried him close to a tree, and the tree caught his cloak and pulled it off his back. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Give me back my cloak. Do you fear that I will not distribute among you what Allah has granted you as spoils? By Him in whose hand is my soul, if Allah granted you cattle as numerous as the thorn trees of Tihamah, I would divide them among you. You would never find me miserly, or cowardly, or a liar."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dismounted, stood among the people, and said, "Hand over even a thread and a needle, for stealing from the spoils is disgrace and fire and shame upon whoever does it on the Day of Resurrection."Then he picked up from the ground a tuft of camel hair, or something similar, and said, "By Him in whose hand is my soul, I have no more right to what Allah has granted you as spoils than this, except for the fifth, and even the fifth is returned to you."
