The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked a man, "What do you say in your prayer?"The man replied, "I recite the tashahhud, then I ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge with Him from the Fire. By Allah, I cannot match your eloquent murmuring nor that of Muaz."The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is around these very things that we murmur."
[Sahih] Ibn Hibban (Mawarid) narrated it, no. 514, from the hadith of Jareer bin Abdul-Hameed with this wording, and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 725, as did Busiri and Nawawi. Abu Dawud also narrated it, no. 792, through another route with this wording, and it has corroborating narrations in Abu Dawud, nos. 793 and 599, and elsewhere.
