The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to lead us in prayer, making the first rakah of the noon prayer long and the second one shorter, and he did the same in the dawn prayer.
حدثنا أبو بشر بكر بن خلف حدثنا ابن أبي عدي عن حجاج الصواف عن يحيى بن أبي كثير عن عبد الله بن أبي قتادة وعن أبي سلمة
كان رسول الله ﷺ يصلي بنا فيطيل في الركعة الأولى من الظهر ويقصر في الثانية وكذلك في الصبح
Reported by Muslim, Prayer, Chapter on the recitation in Dhuhr and Asr, no. 451, from the hadith of Ibn Abu Adi through this route. It also has other chains in Bukhari, Muslim, and others through this route, with slight variation.
