The houses of the Ansar were far from the mosque, so they wanted to move closer. Then the verse was revealed, "And We record what they have sent ahead and their footprints" [Ya-Sin 36:12]. He said, So they remained where they were.

كانت الأنصار بعيدة منازلهم من المسجد فأرادوا أن يقتربوا فنزلت {ونكتب ما قدموا وآثارهم} قال فثبتوا

[Hasan] Ibn Jareer narrated it in his Tafsir from the hadith of Israil, and its chain is daif. Busiri graded it daif. See hadith 171 for its defect. It has another route which is daif and shadh, found in Tabarani's Kabir. The hadith has corroborating witnesses in Muslim, no. 665, and in Bazzar, Ibn Abu Hatim, and others.
