They mentioned their negligence regarding sleep, saying that they had slept until the sun rose. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no negligence in sleep. Negligence lies only in wakefulness. So if any of you forgets a prayer or sleeps through it, let him pray it when he remembers, and let him pray it at its proper time the next day."Abdullah bin Rabah said, "Imran bin Husayn heard me as I was relating this hadith and said, 'Young man, look carefully at how you narrate this, for I was a witness to this event with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'" He said, and Imran did not object to anything in his account.
حدثنا أحمد بن عبدة أنبأنا حماد بن زيد عن ثابت عن عبد الله بن رباح
ذكروا تفريطهم في النوم فقال ناموا حتى طلعت الشمس فقال رسول الله ﷺ ليس في النوم تفريط إنما التفريط في اليقظة فإذا نسي أحدكم صلاة أو نام عنها فليصلها إذا ذكرها ولوقتها من الغد قال عبد الله بن رباح فسمعني عمران بن الحصين وأنا أحدث بالحديث فقال يا فتى انظر كيف تحدث فإني شاهد للحديث مع رسول الله ﷺ قال فما أنكر من حديثه شيئا
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Prayer, Chapter on One Who Sleeps Through a Prayer or Forgets It, hadith no. 437, and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih.
