In the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a woman in postnatal confinement would remain in seclusion for forty days, and we used to apply wars to our faces to remove the blemishes of pregnancy.
حدثنا نصر بن علي الجهضمي حدثنا شجاع بن الوليد عن علي بن عبد الأعلى عن أبي سهل عن مسة الأزدية
كانت النفساء على عهد رسول الله ﷺ تجلس أربعين يوما وكنا نطلي وجوهنا بالورس من الكلف
[Hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in Purification, chapter on what has been said about the duration of the nafisah's [postpartum bleeding] period, hadith no. 311, from the hadith of Ali bin Abdul-Ala, with this chain. Hakim and Dhahabi graded it sahih, and Nawawi graded it hasan.
