The Prophet ﷺ granted a concession to the traveler that, after performing wudu and putting on his leather socks, if he then breaks his wudu and renews it, he may wipe over them for three days and three nights, and for the resident, one day and one night.
حدثنا محمد بن بشار وبشر بن هلال الصواف قالا حدثنا عبد الوهاب بن عبد المجيد قال حدثنا المهاجر أبو مخلد
عن النبي ﷺ أنه رخص للمسافر إذا توضأ ولبس خفيه ثم أحدث وضوءا أن يمسح ثلاثة أيام ولياليهن وللمقيم يوما وليلة
[Its chain is hasan] Abu Yaala narrated it (as found in Tahzib Kamal 28/582, biography of Muhajir) from Muhammad bin Bashshar Bundar with the same wording, adding that Abu Bakra would not wipe over the socks. Muhajir's hadith is hasan according to the more correct view, and the rest of the chain is sahih.
