Abu Hurairah reported,

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Perform ablution from what fire has changed."Ibn Abbas asked, "Should I perform ablution from hot water?"He replied, "Nephew, when you hear a hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, do not strike comparisons against it."

[Hasan] Mentioned previously, no. 22. Tirmidhi recorded it, no. 79, from the narration of Sufyan through the same chain. Ahmad recorded it in 1/366 with a sahih chain, from Ibn Abbas, that in this debate he said to Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنهم , "I do not care what I performed wudu over. I testify that I saw the Messenger of Allah eat a shoulder of meat, then get up for prayer without performing wudu." So each side has its own proof, and each is excused.
